Research and Planning - Production Company Logo Designs

In todays lesson, Elise spent ten minutes on photoshop designing some possible production company logos for our trailer/magazine/poster. We wanted to continue the traits of the name "Flashlight Productions" by placing a light or a glow behind it. Both me and Elise really like the second design so (with the right audience feedback) we will most likely use it.

Research and Planning - Production Company Name Feedback

I asked my target audience on the social networking site Facebook about our production company name "Flashlight", what they thought of the name itself and any possible suggestions they have/what we should change. Below is their response. As you can see, nobody had an issue with the production company name so this is the name the me and Elise would both like to use.

Research and Planning - Production Company Name

Today, me and Elise have decided on the name we are going to use as our production company name; "Flashlight Productions". We believe this name conveys the stereotypical suspense and thriller theme that ties in well with our trailer.

Research and Planning - Font Feedback

Elise tweeted out the photo showing our multiple "Identity" fonts, asking for our target audiences feedback or possible suggestions. The large majority replied saying they thought font 2 was the most appropriate/fit well with the genre and context of the trailer, which is the exact font me and Elise both preferred too! Therefore we will probably use this.

Research and Planning - Font Ideas

Today I have been on 'dafont' trying to find a suitable font for our trailer name "Identity". This means the font needs to portray the genre (thriller) and the context of our trailer. I have further posted this on twitter asking my target audience for there response and Ideas. Here are the font's below:

Research and Planning - Editing News Reporter Footage

On iMovie, me and Elise have edited the blurry piece of footage we filmed, experimenting with the colour, timing, effects and sound. Our end product gives the 'fuzzy' TV effect to it which is exactly what we want. I think this is part of the footage we will use in our final trailer.

Research and Planning - Editing Photos on Photoshop

Here is a photo taken from my film magazine and poster photo shoot. Below is this existing the photo at  different stages of editing, gradually changing so it fits more with my genre and context:

1) Here I have used the blemish/spot healer and paint tool on my models blemishes and lips to balance her skin tone and lips:

2) Here I have edited the saturation of the photo to give it a more cold and bitter feeling which suggests that these ideas will be reoccurring throughout the film:

3) Next I edited the colour balance to further heighten this feeling (blue is a common colour used to portray genres such as thriller and horror) :

4) Finally I adjusted the brightness and contrast of the photo so the models face has a lot of shadow, making her 'Identity' not fully visible. By further placing the text "Identity" over the top (like the plan for my film poster) it will continue to convey these mysterious and dark conventions:

Research and Planning - Forensic Suits for Filming

Recently we have been given a packet of 'Work Suits' that are suitable as a costume for our forensics and therefore what we are going to use. This means we can start thinking about filming our forensic scene as we have the majority of the equipment/props/costumes that we need.

Research and Planning - Plan for the Week

Plan for this week:

- Decide on (and possibly design) our production company name.
- Make a start on my film poster (photoshop).
- Start to Collect props together for filming.

Additional:

- Arrange dates for filming!!

Research and Planning - Experimental Footage 05/12/14

During filming on Friday, both me and Elise didn't realise that the footage we had recorded was slightly out of focus. The rest of the elements, such as sound and framing, were all fine. Therefore, we are going to use this as experimental footage (shown below) and will re-film this scene in the upcoming week.

Here are a series of photos and videos of our first experience filming for our trailer:

Research and Planning - Prop Preparation 05/12/14

Below I have made a voice thread explaining how and why we created this prop:

Here are a few photo's of our prop (microphone and ID badge) preparation:

Research and Planning - Auditioning News Reporter

In the video below, we gave one of actresses, Angela, the script we would want our news reporter to say/act in our trailer. We filmed her audition and enjoyed her own personal interpretation on the role.

Research and Planning - Production Company Name

I have been trying to think more about (if we were to chose this name) the type of logo I would like. I have role-reversed the colours so the writing is now white against a black background, making the genre look more of a thriller genre.

Research and Planning - Software Decision

After a group discussion, me and Elise have decided to use iMovie as our main software device. Here we will be using the simple drag and drop cut tool, editing transitions, so on. However, we still want to use certain effects on Final Cut Pro (such as the dark/video recording effect). Therefore, we will be making these short scenes (at most scenes that are ten second tops) and then exporting/transferring them over to iMovie where again we can use this drag and drop tool quick and easily. The scenes we will be editing on Final Cut Pro are the webcam scene, film titles, ext.

Research and Planning - Final Cut Pro

Recently, both me and Elise have been practising using Final Cut Pro, but are finding it quite difficult to master, simply because we are completely new to this software. Here are a couple of screen shots of us using Final Cut Pro:

Research and Planning - Weather for 05/12/14

Here is the 'supposed' weather for 05/12/14, the day we are filming our news reporter scene. There is a big chance it will be windy that day, so we will need to take pro cautions, such as umbrellas that will shield both our actress and camera (for noise and 'shaky' quality) from the weather.

Research and Planning - Film Magazine Photos

Here are my film magazine photos. this characters face isn't showing, continuing this theme of not noting their full Identity. I will be editing one of these photos so it's overall a lot darker so the character is harder to see as well portraying the thriller genre.

Research and Planning - Film Poster Photos

Here I took close up photos that I will use for my film poster. I will be editing these on photoshop so the main features of the car will be visible - not the hair/outline of the face. It will also be much darker, making it more mysterious. Here are a variety of my favourite photos:

Research and Planning - Make Up Shots for Poster and Magazine

Here are my make-up tests for both my film poster and magazine. The entire face (apart from maybe the chin/lips) will be in complete shadow for my magazine photos, however the eyes will be visible on my film poster which is why the makeup didn't need to change in these (on the next blog post) separate photos.

Research and Planning - Test Shots for Poster and Magazine

Before my film poster and magazine photo shoot, I took some random photos to familiarise myself with the camera and help it focus. Here a these photos:

Research and Planning - Group Meeting about Script

Here, me and Elise got together outside of class to discuss and write our first script for our news reporter. We discuss; the script, where it will be set, props we will use and when we are going to film this short scene. We also want to record this as an audio file separately, just as a backup as well as so it's easier to cut to other scenes (parallel editing/flashbacks) whilst the audio still plays.

Research and Planning - Weather Checks for Identity Photo shoot

There is a possibility that I might be taking some photos outside (for my magazine and poster) so I therefore needed to check the weather for my location area so I would be prepared. Even though it is very cold, it is perfect weather for shooting.
