Research and Planning - Editing Log

Here is our editing log for today:

Research and Planning - Editing

We have transferred all our edited footage from final cut onto iMovie and put them all into place. The begging sequence of our trailer is almost completed. All that is left are a few more scenes and to add/make our own music on garageband.

Research and Planning - Effects on Final Cut

For our trailer, me and Elise are editing all the footage on iMovie as it is the software we are most confident with. However we are also editing bits of footage on Final Cut as iMovie doesn't have those effects. This is where Danny (our main character) is talking into a camera/laptop making a video diary of the recent events. We have added the recording symbol/outline to make it look more like it's actually being recorded.

Research and Planning - Editing Saturation

One of the first things we did was change both the saturation and the brightness on some of our footage to make it seem more realistic to the genre of thriller. Thrillers tend to have dark and grim story lines and so the cinematography (colour/style) has to match to portray this. Below are before and after shots:

Research and Planning - Editing Footage

Today, me and Elise are spending the lesson going through all the footage we have so far and editing it into place as well as adding effects. We are doing this together so we both have an input on the way our trailer will be presented and to make sure we both stay on track (for example - the genre stays a thriller and doesn't side-line into anything else).

Research and Planning - Film Poster Guide Lines

I first  started by setting up some guide lines on my page, a 0.5cm boarder. This will help guide me when making my poster, ensuring that I won't go over the guides and keep my work neat and tidy.

Research and Planning - Selecting a Background

I recently asked some members of my target audience what they thought of my background selection and a few of them suggested changing it. The background might be a bit to dark as the main photo just seems to blend in with it, making it less visible and contrasting. This might be an issue as when comparing my magazine to professional magazines there is a clear contrast between the two.

In the total film magazine above, there is a clear contrast in the colour (blue and black) making the protagonist more clear. Taking this into consideration, I added to more backgrounds that are slightly brighter and more appealing to the eye. They both still feature eery looking woods (just like in our trailer where the body is found/murder took place) and the slight blue/green tinge further hightens the genre of the film and what might happen. Also, with effects such as a backdrop on the text, it will look more magazine like. I prefer the first photo but will again ask for my audiences feedback and preferences.
