Research and Planning - Editing Magazine 6

After re-looking at existing film magazines that feature my genre (thriller) I have decided to change the background of my magazine cover. Below is what my magazine looked like before this process:

The first thing I did was create a new layer to make this new background.

I then looked under the filter section to find a background, using the cloud effect. This is often used in magazines and is simple and effective.

I next adjusted the brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and lightness to better suit the film genre of a thriller.

Finally, I rearranged the layers so 'Final Cut' appeared in front of this new layer.

Research and Planning - Editing Log

Today, me and Elise have created another editing log for todays lesson, including what we want to achieve in the hour and a half. We want to continue editing our trailer, inserting the appropriate transitions, as well as add sound effects and music to our footage.

Research and Planning - Music

For our trailer we need to create a piece of music on garageband so today I have been selecting a few of the sound effects we can use that fit well with our trailer.

Research and Planning - Sneak Peek

Here is the sneak peek for our trailer:

Research and Planning - Creating a Sneak Peak

I first off edited the song "So Close" by Olafur Arnalds so it only featured the first 20+ seconds the the audio. I used garage band to split, cut and join the audio back together so it ran smoothly.

I then selected some of the most exciting parts of the trailer and dragged them into iMovie, using a blank black slate between them so the transitions between the footage fit better with the new audio. I then adjusted the lighting and saturation/brightness of the footage to suit the thriller genre and added the tag lines/titles/dates.

One of the final things I did for this sneak peak is create trailer credits on photoshop with the names of the production companies, actors/actresses and the crew (such as directors). I added this to the end of the trailer. This will also appear on the poster and actual trailer.

Research and Planning - Additional Sneak Peek Analysis

Yesterday I was inspired to make a small sneak peek shown before the trailer premiere to heighten the atmosphere and excitement for the film being shown. Below is the sneak peek trailer (for the trailer premiere) of Paper Towns (2015). In this trailer, only a few pieces of footage are shown in this ten second clip. There is also no dialogue, only tag-lines explaining what it is for "Tomorrow don't miss the trailer premiere" as well as the name of the film and additional information such as the release date "June" and the production/exhibition company names. Overall, the sneak peek is effective and exciting, making you want to see more. We can similarly create our own teaser trailer, using only small pieces of footage, tag-lines and additional information.

Research and Planning - Tag Lines

For my film poster, I have decided that I might use a small tagline (depending how it looks) underneath the title 'IDENTITY', similarly to many professional films and their posters in the industry. The tagline I have decided to use is "Murder has many faces". I think that the theme of a persons identity runs through this, as well as the genre of crime and thriller. It straight away suggests that there has been a murder and that it will be someone in the trailer.

Research and Planning - Props We Used/Will Use

Bracelet:
- The bracelet will feature twice in our trailer. The first time will be on Lauren's wrist (nervously playing with it) secondly found by a forensic and handed over to the detective. During making this trailer, neither me or Elise have decided who killed the young boy but want to make as many different connections between our teenage characters and him as possible so the audience will be more intrigued. The whole idea behind the trailer is to make it as mysterious and unpredictable as possible, enticing our target audience to go and see it.

Google chrome:
- The TV/Google Chrome will be used to broadcast the small video of Angela/our news reader onto a TV. I can then record this footage of someone (but who?) watching this on the TV to make it seem more realistic as if they were actually watching the news report.

Matches:
- The matches will be used in a close up shot when someone (who we don't know the Identity of) sets fire to a set of police documents/files regarding the investigation.

Documents (paper/photos):
- I have created fake police documents that look like vital collected pieces of information regarding the death of the teenage boy. This will heighten the mysterious element as the audience will start to question who is burning the information and their reasoning behind it. We will also shoot a close up of someones mugshot burning, their face no longer visible because of the flame - this could suggest that this character could possibly be the murderer or have a more dangerous end, either way the outcome for them doesn't look good.

Research and Planning - Editing Trailer

Today, me and Elise have been editing the new footage we have filmed into our trailer. One of the main things we have been doing is adjusting the colour/lighting of some of our clips to suit the trailer (thriller theme) better. This included using the day into night effect as shown below:

Research and Planning - Footage From 14/03/15

Here is all the footage we filmed on the 14th:

Research and Planning - Shooting 14/03/15

Shooting footage on the 14th went well - we got all the scenes we planned filmed including some additional shots. Here are some photos/screen shots from the day:

Research and Planning - Weather 14/03/15

The weather for tomorrow will be slightly cold and cloudy, but other than that alright - I will be able to successfully film the remaining scenes without weather issues such as rain and wind.

Research and Planning - Update

Tomorrow I will be filming the majority of our remaining scenes for our trailer with actors/actresses Danny and Lauren. This means that we will only have a few more scenes with both the director and teenagers to film together before editing it together, add additional effects and the trailer music.
